How it works

Speakster is a set of three free tools for teachers of English. Nothing to print, no account, no payment. Open it on your phone or put it on the screen and run the lesson.

Three tools

To open

Generator

Draws a speaking question, a vocabulary item, a grammar gap-fill or a Would you rather dilemma, matched to the age of the group and a level from A1 to B2. Tap the bubble to reveal the translation or the answer.

Draw & guess

A one-screen game. A student peeks at the word, draws with a finger, the class guesses in English, and the score and the clock run themselves. Works on tablets, phones and projectors.

SOS

Lesson finished too early? Set how many minutes are left before the bell and get three activities whose combined length fills it exactly. No prep, no handouts, no equipment.

Using the Generator

1

Pick a card type

Questions for speaking, Vocabulary with a Polish translation on the back, Grammar with a sentence to complete, or Would you rather with dilemmas to argue about.

2

Match it to the group

Kids, teens or adults, and a level from A1 to B2. Items do not repeat until the pool runs out.

3

Draw and flip

Hit Draw or press the space bar. Tapping the bubble flips it: on the back you get vocabulary, a translation or the correct answer.

What to use it for

Warm-up

Two or three questions to get the group talking in the first minutes.

Mid-lesson reset

When energy drops halfway through, one question changes the mood.

Pair speaking

Every pair draws their own question, then reports what their partner said.

Exam practice

Free answers against the clock, useful before oral exams.

Vocabulary mode

A student draws a word and builds a sentence or a short story with it. The back of the card carries the Polish translation for the learners.

Grammar mode

A quick structure review on the board or in pairs, with the answer always at hand.

Would you rather

Dilemmas for discussion, with phrases for justifying a choice on the back of the bubble.

Covering a class

You walk into someone else's group with nothing prepared: Generator to open, Draw & guess in the middle, SOS at the end.

All three tools are free. Speakster is made by Joanna Patyk-Taous, a teacher trainer based in PoznaƄ, Poland. Her teaching materials live at patyczanka.pl, currently in Polish.
